This stunning spectacle is abundant with Kingfish, Butterfish, Tarakihi, Blue Cod, Paua, Crayfish and Kina, all of which can be sourced on one of our chartered dive trips! Hunt and gather some premium kai for the whānau or dive captivating underwater shipwrecks, and marine reserves! Owner and Skipper Chris McMurtrie

Chris has more than 20 years experience both SCUBA and freediving the Marlborough Sounds. Chris is a Secondary School PE teacher and in recent years has introduced and developed a dive course he runs at Marlborough Boys College called Hono (connect). This dive course was developed to connect his students with the ocean and their local environment. Chris runs the course in conjunction with, and support from Blenheim Dive Centre. After starting this course, Chris has realised a true passion and love for the ocean. His goal is to share this joy with others, while also supporting them to get to know their natural environment and its inhabitants. “There is nothing quite like going out, being immersed in another world, selecting a fish you want to shoot, processing these fish yourself and then preparing a healthy, fresh meal for your family and friends”. Chris has completed his training to earn his SRL (commercial) skippers ticket, purchased a new vessel perfect for diving the Marlborough Sounds, and completed the process of having this vessel put into Survey. Chris is now extremely excited to introduce Marlborough Dive Tours; an opportunity to showcase what diving has to offer and educate those wanting to experience the diving buzz!

The Vessel, "Descend"

The dive boat “DESCEND” is a 5.8m Frewza alloy pontoon boat, and is perfect for accessing some of the greatest dive locations in the Marlborough Sounds. The vessel is large enough to reach all dive locations in the sounds and small enough to get into those hard to reach places! The Frewza is a weapon! The vessel is surveyed for 6 divers but more comfortable with 4, and is stable and safe. The vessel was built in 2015 and has been fitted with the ever reliable Yamaha 4 stroke outboard motor. All electronics and safety equipment have been double and triple checked to ensure a safe and enjoyable day on the water!
